Diagnostic Colonoscopy

A diagnostic colonoscopy is a medical procedure used to examine the inside of the colon (large intestine) and rectum for the purpose of diagnosing various gastrointestinal conditions. It involves the use of a flexible, thin tube called a colonoscope, which is inserted through the rectum to visualize the colon's lining. During the procedure, a healthcare provider can inspect for abnormalities such as polyps, inflammation, tumors, or bleeding and may also collect tissue samples (biopsies) for further evaluation and diagnosis.

  • History Colon Polyps
  • History of Colon Cancer
  • Any symptoms:
  • Rectal bleeding

Screening Colonoscopy

A screening colonoscopy is a preventive medical procedure used to detect early signs of colorectal cancer or precancerous growths (polyps) in individuals who are at average risk for the disease. It involves the insertion of a flexible tube called a colonoscope into the rectum to examine the entire colon's lining. If no abnormalities are found, it can be an effective way to prevent colon cancer by identifying and removing potential cancer precursors before they become a threat.

Upper Endoscopy

Upper endoscopy, also known as esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD), is a medical procedure used to examine the upper gastrointestinal tract, which includes the esophagus, stomach, and the first part of the small intestine (duodenum). During an upper endoscopy, a flexible tube with a camera at the end, called an endoscope, is inserted through the mouth and down the throat to visualize and assess the lining of these structures. It is often performed to diagnose conditions such as ulcers, gastritis, reflux disease, and to collect biopsies for further evaluation when necessary.

Who is a candidate for Upper Endoscopy (EGD)?

Upper endoscopy, also known as EGD, is a procedure commonly used to help identify the causes of:

  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Heartburn/GERD
  • Upper abdominal pain
  • Swallowing problems
  • Abdominal bloating

What is a Capsule Endoscopy?

Capsule Endoscopy lets your doctor examine the lining of the middle part of your gastrointestinal tract, including the three portions of the small intestine (duodenum, jejunum, ileum).

Pill Camera Capsule Endoscopy

Pill camera capsule endoscopy is a non-invasive medical procedure that involves swallowing a small, disposable capsule containing a tiny camera. As it travels through the digestive tract, it takes thousands of pictures, transmitting them to a device worn by the patient or a data recorder. This technology is primarily used to capture images of the small intestine and is helpful in diagnosing conditions such as Crohn's disease, small intestine tumors, or unexplained gastrointestinal bleeding.

Anoscopy

Anoscopy is a relatively simple and quick medical procedure used to examine the inside of the anus and lower rectum. It involves the use of a small, tubular instrument called an anoscope, which is inserted into the anal canal. Anoscopy is typically performed to diagnose and evaluate conditions such as hemorrhoids, anal fissures, polyps, or other abnormalities in the anal and rectal area. During the procedure, your provider can visually inspect the tissues, take biopsies if necessary, and make assessments to guide further treatment or interventions.

CRH O’Regan Hemorrhoid Banding

CRH O'Regan Hemorrhoid Banding is a non-surgical procedure used to treat hemorrhoids, which are swollen blood vessels in the rectal and anal area. During the procedure, a special instrument is used to place a small rubber band around the base of the hemorrhoid, cutting off its blood supply. This causes the hemorrhoid to shrink and eventually fall off, typically within a few days, providing relief from symptoms such as pain, bleeding, and itching.

Proctoscopy

Proctoscopy is a medical procedure used to visually examine the rectum and the lower part of the colon (sigmoid colon) using a specialized instrument called a proctoscope. This procedure is typically performed to diagnose and evaluate conditions affecting the rectal and sigmoid regions, such as hemorrhoids, rectal bleeding, inflammation, or tumors. It allows your provider to directly inspect the mucous lining of these areas and may also involve taking biopsies or other diagnostic measures as needed.
